Penstemon euglaucus ‘Rowena Sky’
XERA Plants Introduction 2007!
Fuchsia fulgens ‘Variegata’
Arctostaphylos x ‘John Dourley’

In 2007 we continue to expand our selection with even more new plants. Here are a few that we are very excited about. Fuchsia fulgens ‘Variegata’ is a wonderful foliage plant with brilliant orange flowers. Penstemon euglaucus ‘Rowena Sky’ is our own selection of a great native perennial with a flower color much darker blue than the species. Indigofera amblyantha is a mouthful but it is just as tough and beautiful as others in this wonderful genus.  Arctostaphylos x ‘John Dourley’ is surely one of the very best manzanitas for gardens with brilliant new growth and blue/green leaves that are handsome year round.  Myrteola nummularia is a small vine/scandant shrub from southern Chile that is one of the cold hardiest of true Myrtles. Small round leaves line wiry stems and tiny clear white flowers give way to relatively large, edible pink berries. A fascinating and easy to grow groundcover for moist soil in part shade.  Scroll down and read more about these exciting new plants from Xera.
For foliage alone this tender Fuchsia ranks near the top but it has great flowers too. A lax growing plant to 20” tall and a wide in one season. Continuous 2” tubular orange and cream flowers appear until frost. Excellent container plant or in a protected location.  Part shade to shade in rich soil with regular water- benefits from regular liquid fertilizer. Zn8b (15º to 20ºF) Onagraceae
Penstemon euglaucus is one of the best of our native beard tongues for gardens west of the Cascades. We’ve selected and named this form for its brilliant deep blue flowers, unusual for this species. Rosettes of gray evergreen leaves give rise to 18” spikes of deep blue and lavender flowers from June to August. Well drained soil in full sun. Occasional water in summer. Zn5a (-20º to -15ºF)
Scrophulariaceae  Oregon Native
An excellent Manzanita for gardens with lovely blue leaves and brilliant orange/red new growth. Low and spreading to only 3’ tall and about 5’ wide. A great garden tolerant variety for the PNW that is resistant to black spot. Full sun and drought tolerant when established. Light pink flowers in late winter followed by mahogany berries. Dramatic smooth  exfoliating bark is nearly black. Zn7a
(0º to 5ºF) Ericaceae
Tough but delicate looking deciduous  shrub that blooms continuously from late spring to frost. Light pink spikes of pea shaped flowers emerge from each axil on new growth. To 5 feet tall and as wide in a season. Full sun to light shade. Takes poor soils. Cut back hard each spring. Pretty pinnate foliage. Excellent in mixed borders with perennials. Zn5a (-20º to -15ºF) Papillionaceae
Indigofera amblyantha
Myrteola nummularia
Intriguing fine textured scandant shrub that scrambles along the ground and through other plants.
Small, round, evergreen leaves on wiry stems. Tiny, sparkling white flowers give way to much larger pink berries. The edible berries have a spicy, sweet flavor. Part shade in moist, well drained soil. Excellent container plant. Introduced to the U.S. by plantsman Dan Hinkley.  Zn7a  (0º to 5ºF) Myrtaceae
