Very good in rough conditions. Not a shy plant.

In late winter through spring creamy yellow double petalled flowers, each petal backed with gray. Part shade to high overhead shade. Clay soil- this double form does not set seed. Summer dormant. Beautiful with Viola odorata and early cream flowered Crocus thomasinianus.
Rabdosia longituba Zn6a (-10º to -5ºF) Lamiaceae
Unusual and beautiful perennial from the forests of Hokkaido in N.Japan. From 1' wide clump of rather ordinary leaves in late August-October it is topped with clouds of guppy-shaped sky blue flowers from very thin stems. Excellent in combination with Kirengeshoma palmata. Rich soil in dappled light, morning sun, afternoon shade in rich soil with regular water- appreciates summer heat. To 3' tall Winter deciduous. Easy.

At first glace you may not think this is the most exciting plant, only when you find out that it is EXTREMELY tolerant of dry shade, evergreen and hardy to cold that you realize this plant ROCKS! Slow growing, evergreen, lily relative from Japan. Good looking year round. Water to establish and then only occasionally. Humus enriched soil, good drainage. Requires shade. To 14" tall and slowly to 2' wide. Red berries follow tiny green flowers.

Brand new golden form of a tough and durable plant with excellent quilted, ruffled leaves. New foliage emerges chrartreuse/green and keeps that color until autumn when cooler weather brings tints of red. To only 4" tall but spreading to form a 2' wide plant in full sun to light shade. Avoid reflected heat. Well drained soil with occasional water in summer. Small white (blackberry) flowers followed by occasional red berries. Not invasive.
